At a meeting on Thursday, the Homer-Center School Board approved entering into an agreement with two lawfirms to enter a lawsuit that will be filed against social media companies.
The agreement with Frantz Law Group of San Diego and Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter and Graham, LLP in Butler will start legal action against social media companies like TikTok, Meta, YouTube and others to pursue monetary compensation. District Superintendent Ralph Cecere, Jr. said that the focus of the lawsuit is the negative impact that social media apps have had on students, and he feels that the district has also seen challenges in dealing with those mental health issues.
In other business, the board approved an autistic support classrom that will be facilitated by the ARIN IU 28 at the Junior/Senior High School starting with the 2023-24 academic year. The board also approved a revised school year calendar that makes June 2nd the last student day to make up for school being cancelled on March 23rd.
