An inmate accused of assaulting a guard at the Indiana County Jail in 2021 was found not guilty by a jury trial on Tuesday.
Court documents say 44-year-old Thomas Fry was due before Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco for the incident dating back to April 9th, 2021, in which Fry allegedly grabbed an electronic tablet and hit a guard in the face with it after undergoing “severe alcohol withdrawal delerium.” According to Fry’s attorney Patrick Dougherty, he was receiving medical treatment during his stay in jail.
Dougherty adds that security footage was presented during the case, but the jury acquitted Fry following a 35-minute deliberation period.
Fry faced felony charges of assault by a prisoner and aggravated assault, along with a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.
