An important deadline for voters is coming up soon.
The deadline to register to vote for the upcoming primary election is May 1st, with the primary election taking place on May 16th. Acting Secretary of State Al Schmidt is urging everyone who is eligible to vote in the upcoming election to make sure they are registered by then. A voter is considered eligible to register if they are a US citizen for at least one month before the primary, a resident of Pennsylvania and the district they are planning to register and vote for at least thirty days before the primary and be at least eighteen years of age.
To register, eligible voters can log on to vote.pa.gov, or contact the county voter registration office for more information on how to register. Those who have already registered can check on their status online as well, and make any necessary modifications. Voters can also request mail-in or absentee ballots through the voter registration office or the website, but that request must be received by the county election offices by 5 PM on May 9th and those ballots must be returned to the county election office by 8 PM on May 16th.
