IUP’s softball team swept a doubleheader from Mercyhurst yesterday, 9-6 and 8-5. PSAC West Athlete of the Week Delaney Patella was 7-for-7, all singles, in the twinbill and walked in her other two plate appearances. Jordan Sylvia had five hits, including a homer.
In addition to Patella being named Athlete of the Wek yesterday, IUP’s Tori Long was named Pitcher of the Week. Both of them are freshmen.
The IUP baseball team split a doubleheader with Slippery Rock, losing the first game 5-0 and winning the nightcap, 9-6. Harrison Pontoli and Au’Sean Owens each had 3 hits in the win, and Peyton Johnson and Elijah Owens each homered.
IUP golf is tied with Gannon for the lead after the first day of West Chester’s invitational, at 13-over par. Millersville is one shot back. IUP’s Alex Swinnerton was the only golfer in the field under par, at one-under 70. The Crimson Hawks’ Guillermo Salazar is also in the top five, at two-over.
IUP’s Joanna Stralka was named PSAC Athlete of the Week in tennis.
