BASEBALL
United swept Homer-Center in a doubleheader, 11-9 and 15-9.
United won the first game, 11-9, in 11 innings after the Wildcats had rallied from a 9-5 deficit with a four-run 7th. The Lions plated two runs in the top of the 11th. Caden McCully had four hits, including a triple. Isaac Worthington had three hits and drove in three runs. Brady Coleman, Brad Felix, and Travis Timko all had two hits and Joe Marino threw the final four shutout innings for the win. For Homer-Center, Braden Dunn had three hits, and Owen Saiani, Caleb Palmer, and Nate Turk each had two. United had 16 hits in the game, Homer-Center 12.
The Lions scored three runs in the first and second innings of the second game, then six more in the 4th and three in the 5th, countering a 4-run 3rd, followed by two in the 4th, and single runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th, by the Wildcats. Joe Marino had three hits and five RBIs and Caden McCully had two hits for United. Evan Thomas drove in three runs. Braden Dunn had two hits and three RBIs for Homer-Center, and Owen Saiani and Nash Budner each had two hits.
Marion Center broke open a 3-3 game with a three-run double by Parker Black in the top of the 5th, and the Stingers went on to an 8-3 win over River Valley. Noah McCoy homered for Marion Center. Nick Pacconi had two hits. Hunter Riggle had two hits for the Panthers. Dakota Bracken got the complete game win, giving up three earned runs and striking out nine with one walk.
Northern Cambria rolled over Purchase Line, 15-0, in three innings. Owen Bougher was perfect on the mound for the Colts, allowing no hits or walks, striking out six of the nine batters he faced.
Penns Manor scored four in the 7th but six errors in the game were too much to overcome, and the Comets came up short against Williamsburg, 7-5. Justin Vojtek had two hits for Penns Manor, including a double.
Kiski Area dropped Indiana, 5-1, with a 4-run 3rd inning breaking a 1-1 tie. Indiana had only three hits, by Trevor Smith, Gavin Homer, and Andrew McGee. There is Renda Digital TV today for the Indiana rematch against Kiski Area. It’s at 4 PM and you can watch it at wdadradio.com.
Indiana JV trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the 6th but rallied to beat Kiski Area, 5-4, to raise their record to 5-0, as Rocco Cosentino, Mark Collinger, and Jacob Sexton all hit doubles and Sully VanHoose knocked in Sexton with a single for the go-ahead run. Sexton, VanHoose, and Tuscan Blystone all had two hits.
SOFTBALL
Indiana edged West Mifflin, 2-1, as Olivia Zimmerman tripled and doubled. After giving up an unearned run in the first inning, Indiana rallied with a single run in the 5th on Zimmerman’s triple and a Haley Hamilton sac fly. Then in the top of the 7th, Chloe McHugh singled with two outs, Zimmerman and Hamilton walked to load the bases, and McHugh scored on a wild pitch. Indiana turned two double plays, one in the 6th and one in the 7th to end the game. Addie Stossel got the win for the 6-1 Indians.
Marion Center blasted River Valley, 19-0, as Cheyenne Silvis tossed a no-hitter, striking out 11, and went 5-for-5 at the plate. The Stingers had 21 hits
United scored single runs in the 5th and 6th innings and rallied over Homer-Center, 2-1. Jaelyn Lichtenfels had two hits for the Lions, Abigail McConville had a triple and Kylie Price a double. Cleo Long had a single and an RBI. In the pitcher’s circle, McConville gave up only one hit and a first inning run, and 19 of the 21 outs she recorded were by strikeout.
Northern Cambria crushed Purchase Line, 14-2, plating 8 runs in the 4th inning as part of a 17-hit attack. Kenzie Formeck doubled and tripled and had three hits. Lakin Baker had three hits, and Alivia Yahner, Morgan Hassen, Megan Lubert, and Laci Lanzendorfer all had two. For Purchase Line, Kara Harbrige had a double.
Cambria Heights beat Portage, 7-2.
Williamsburg beat Penns Manor, 6-2.
