The State System of Higher Education and the union representing teachers and coaches have started negotiations on a new coaches’ contract yesterday.
According to a news release from APSCUF, negotiation teams discussed the evaluation process, funding professional-development activities for coaches and expanded tuition waivers. APSCUF Coach Executive Leader John Gump said it was good to get things moving with the negotiation process. He added that the coaches have provided a valuable service to the state system and its students, which he feels has grown over the last few years, and hopes that the system will recognize this in future sessions.
The two sides are set to resume negotiations on May 2nd, with the current four-year contract set to expire in June.
Meanwhile, faculty negotiations are set to resume tomorrow. They have been ongoing for the last few months, with the last negotiation session happening on March 3rd. The teachers contract also expires in June.
