Tonight’s state championship game between River Valley and Dunmore carries with it a lot of excitement and historical backing, but it will also carry a somber tone as well.
Earlier this week, the district announced in a Facebook post the unexpected passing of certified strength and agility coach, Todd McGee, who worked closely with student-athletes in grades 7-12. McGee was hired as a certified speed and agility coach in the fall and was tasked with working specifically with the basketball team. He attended preseason camps and practices to help get the team ready for competition in this season, and he was an integral part in the Panthers’ success throughout the year.
Director of Athletics Tiara Stossel said McGee’s impact on the team – and community – goes beyond the basketball court.
To honor McGee, the team added a heart to the left shoulder on their shooting shirts with the initials “T.M.” in it. In a separate post, team officials said McGee is still in their hearts and that they “deserve [McGee] as their Angel on their shoulder.
