As construction season ramps up in Pennsylvania, state troopers and PennDOT officials are reminding everyone to be careful in work zones.
Road work activity is expected to ramp up as more spring-like temperatures arrive, and they are asking that people take some extra time if their normal route includes a construction zone. When in a work zone, drivers are reminded to
- Drive the posted work zone speed limit.
- Stay alert and pay close attention to signs and flaggers.
- Turn on your headlights if signs instruct you to do so.
- Maintain a safe distance around vehicles. Don’t tailgate.
- Use four-way flashers when stopped or traveling slowly.
- Avoid distractions and give your full attention to the road.
- Always buckle up.
- Expect the unexpected.
The tips are being offered to not only keep people in the cars safe, but also those who are working in the construction zones. PennDOT reports that 90 of their employees were killed in the line of duty since 1970.
