A Penn Run man accused of rear-ending a police vehicle and spitting in an officer’s face is due in district court today for his preliminary hearing.
Police said on February 24th, 39-year-old David Paul Dilts Jr. crashed into a marked state police vehicle on Airport Road in Cherryhill Township. After the crash, Dilts reportedly got out of the car and was verbally aggressive towards authorities, and failed to follow their commands. He also spat a chunk of chewing tobacco into the face of a trooper as he was being placed under arrest. He was also wanted for a hit-and-run crash in White Township after allegedly rear-ending a GMC Sierra on an on-ramp to Route 286.
Charges filed against Dilts in the incident on Airport Road included felony aggravated assault-attempts to cause severe bodily injury; misdemeanor reckless endangerment, simple assault, and resisting arrest; and summary traffic charges. In the Route 286 crash, he was charged with misdemeanor accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle or property and five summary traffic charges.
Court documents say that bail was denied as he refused to cooperate during his bail hearing and threatened further violence. His hearings are scheduled for this afternoon.
