Changes are coming soon to the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program in Pennsylvania and state officials are reminding everyone about those changes.
Coronavirus flexibilities that were put in during the height of the pandemic in 2020 are set to expire on March 31st. That included people staying on Medicaid even if the person was no longer eligible to be on the program based on regular eligibility criteria. The continuous coverage requirement is coming to an end thanks to the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 being signed into law by President Joe Biden.
Department of Human Services Acting Secretary Val Arkoosh says starting April 1st, Medicaid and CHiP recipients must complete their annual renewal when it is time to renew, but he said that no one will automatically lose coverage that day.
The renewal process to maintain Medicaid and CHiP is expected to take 12 months to complete. Right now, it’s recommended that recipients of Medicaid and CHIP make sure their contact information with DHS is up to date.
