A bill that would ban TikTok from state-owned networks and devices has passed the state senate.
By a unanimous vote, the senate approved Senate Bill 379 and sent it on to the state house for a vote. The bill calls for state agencies, departments and commissions to remove the app from all state-owned devices and put new measures in place so that the app cannot be installed or used on state-owned networks.
Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill, a Republican from York said that the app presents a cyber-security threat.
The Pennsylvania Treasurer’s office has already instituted its own ban of TikTok on all department devices and networks. 27 other states have also instituted their own ban.
The bill heads to the House for its approval.
