On Wednesday night, the Penns Manor School Board heard from district citizens, employees and students concerning the ongoing teachers contract negotiations.
Most in attendance were hopeful that tomorrow’s negotiation session will bring an end to the strike that will have gone on for nine days. Erica Talmadge, a teacher in the district, said that she has felt a lot of different emotions throughout the last few months, and especially the last few weeks, especially anger.
Another person who spoke out was Savannah Orner, a Senior, who said that she misses a lot by not going to school.
During the meeting, Negotiations Committee Chairperson Jill Eckenrode said that the district fully understands the importance of fair compensation for the teachers, but the board has another responsibility.
The next negotiation session is set for Thursday morning. School will be closed for the day.
In other business, the board approved a driver’s ed agreement with Canton Driving School, and approved with regret the resignations of teachers Kimberly Rhea and Gerald Hughes and cleaner Donna Nichol.
