The State Police Special Emergency Response Team was called out on Friday night for an incident in Green Township.
According to a news release, the incident was reported to State Police Troop A at 7:29 PM. Troopers were asked to respond at that time to a domestic incident in the 5000 block of Route 580. While en route, troopers were notified that a 37-year-old Cherry Tree man was on the second floor of the house and threatened to shoot anyone he encountered, and that he had access to rifles, shotguns and a sword. A mental health warrant was issued for the man, and a search warrant was issued for the house. Troopers were then able to set up a perimeter around the house. Attempts to get the suspect to talk with officers failed, so the SERT team was called in to assist. During the standoff, the suspect damaged a SERT Team drone. Following various efforts from the SERT team, the suspect left the house and he was taken into custody at that point. He was later taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Charges related to the initial domestic dispute are pending. The man also faces a charge of misdemeanor criminal mischief for damaging the drone.
