A new Fowl Ordinance was approved during Tuesday night’s Ernest Borough Council meeting.
The Ordinance prohibits any chickens, geese, or other types of fowl from running loosely around the borough, especially during non-daylight hours. It also prohibits residents from owning roosters above the age of six months. Anyone who violates the ordinance will be subjected to pay a fine between $100 and $300 along with other costs. Those who refuse to pay the fine could face up to 30 days in jail.
While she was happy the ordinance passed, Mayor Sandi Waldenville did have one concern with it.
Borough Council approved the Ordinance by a 3-to-2 vote.
In other business, Borough Secretary Patricia Yamrick announced that a total of $7,000 was donated towards the new Miner’s Memorial. $5,000 of that came the United Mine Workers of America.
