After a reportedly quiet day, first responders were busy on Thursday with several different calls reported Thursday afternoon.
Three of those calls were brush fires. One was reported at 4:40 PM on Gazda Road in Young Township. The call was initially handled by Coal Run/McIntyre fire department but the Aultman and Tunnelton fire departments were called out six minutes later to assist on-scene. At 4:48 PM, a brush fire was reported on Elders Ridge Road in Young Township. Iselin/West Lebanon fire departments were called out first, followed by Kiski Township, Saltsburg, Bell Township, Elderton, Tunnelton, Aultman, Coal Run/McIntyre and Parks Township fire departments later on. The third brush fire was reported at 4:57 PM on West Church Street in Homer City Borough. Homer City firefighters were called out at that time.
This brings the total number of brush fires to 27 for the year so far.
Indiana Fire Association members were dispatched twice within an hour yesterday. The first call was a miscellaneous call at 8:14 PM on Metz Road, and the other call was an automatic fire alarm activation was reported on Philadelphia Street 37 minutes later.
