Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas will be busy today with criminal call hearings and several sentencing hearings.
One of those expected to be sentenced today is a Blairsville man charged with two robberies at a convenience store in Armagh. Court documents show that 29-year-old Nicholas Empfield pleaded guilty to a burglary charge for the incident on December 23rd, 2021 at the One-Stop service station, while charges of trespass and theft were not prosecuted. He also entered guilty pleas to charges of robbery and theft for an incident at the same store on January 7th of 2022. In the first incident, he allegedly stole over $3000 and a grey metal lock box. During the second robbery, he allegedly assaulted a female employee during the robbery and took money from a lottery cash register. His hearings are scheduled for 8:30 this morning in front of President Judge Thomas Bianco.
Also due for sentencing hearings today is a Blairsville man also facing charges in two separate incidents. Court documents showed that Brian Scot Davenport of Blairsville was originally charged with five counts each of possession of a controlled substance and of drug paraphernalia along with possession with intent to deliver and two counts of prohibited possession of a firearm for an incident on March 2nd of last year. Police said that he was found hiding in an apartment in Blairsville on that day, and Davenport tried to get away by climbing over a brick wall. When troopers searched the West Iron Alley home, they found large quantities of heroin along with cocaine, meth and marijuana, over $9000 in cash and several firearms. In that case, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver. The other case was from October 14th, and in that case, he entered guilty pleas to fleeing or eluding police and driving on a suspended license. His hearings are scheduled for this afternoon.
