Authorities reportedly conducted law enforcement activities Thursday morning in White Township and other areas of Western Pennsylvania.
Eyewitnesses say that the FBI and State Police were seen at a residence in the township, while similar activities were reported in several communities in Westmoreland County. At the time, both FBI and State Police confirmed that officers were out yesterday morning, but did not provide any other details.
Margaret Philbin with the U.S. Attorney’s office in Pittsburgh confirmed the arrests were made as part of a large-scale drug sweep called “Operation Lake Effect”, and included arrests in several areas of Western Pennsylvania including Indiana County, Northern Ohio, the southwestern United States and other areas. Federal agents are expected to release more information this afternoon at a news conference at the U.S. Attorney’s office in Pittsburgh.
