While the month of March came in like a lamb on Wednesday, today may feel more like a lion as high winds are expected throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning that will start at 1:00 this afternoon and end at 1:00 tomorrow morning. Winds are expected out of the southeast at 25-35 miles an hour, but they are expected to gust to over 65 miles an hour in Indiana, Westmoreland and Fayette counties. The damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, possibly causing widespread power outages. Travel is also expected to be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles like tractor-trailer trucks.
The weather service says that people should stay inside and not travel unless necessary during the windstorm, and to avoid being near windows. People should also watch out for falling debris and tree limbs, and to exercise caution if driving is necessary.
Along with the wind, our area could see a wintry mix of precipitation today that would equal or exceed the total snowfall reported over the month of February. A complete check of your Accuweather forecast is coming up in a few minutes.
