At a hearing this month in Indiana County Court, President Judge Thomas Bianco denied a motion by the attorney for homicide defendant Matthew Bartlebaugh to suppress statements Bartlebaugh made in the wake of his father’s shooting death.
43-year-old Gerald Bartlebaugh was killed while sleeping with his girlfriend at his side in his bed at the family home in Glen Campbell on New Year’s Day 2020. 28-year-old Matthew Bartlebaugh, who suffers from mental illness, kept police at bay for hours before surrendering. He’s charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and reckless endangerment.
Bianco’s ruling means prosecutors will be able to use the defendant’s statements against him. The trial is scheduled for December 18th.
