The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced that the spread of flu across the state and Indiana County has slowed down yet again.
In its recent report ending February 18th, the Department of Health reports that 179,791 lab-confirmed cases of influence have been reported throughout the state. This marks an uptick of 2,059 cases over the two-week span dating back to February 4th. Of those cases, 174,497 are confirmed as Type A flu, 5,204 were Type B, and 270 were unknown or Type U. The death toll for flu season is now up to 119.
The Department of Health adds that while flu activity has decreased over the past few weeks, it is still too soon to confirm if the end of flu season as activity could increase and bring on another surge.
For Indiana County, 34 new flu cases have been reported, bringing the seasonal total to 1,056 cases. 941 cases were Type A, while 115 were Type B.
These numbers represent the number of lab-confirmed cases. Many more cases may be out there as people either self-diagnose or doctors may diagnose the symptoms but not use laboratory tests to confirm their diagnosis.
