The Penguins find themselves in a battle for the playoffs as the season resumes tonight at PPG Paints Arena. And all of the teams in the battle who played last night won. Metro Division rivals the Devils, Islanders, and Rangers all won, and the Islanders’ victory put them two games ahead of the Pens in the battle for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Tonight, the Penguins meet the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. It will be the first game for Pittsburgh in nine days, and it looks like they will get injured forwards Kasperi Kapanen and Josh Archibald back after long absences.
Coach Mike Sullivan says Kapanen will be a most welcome addition to the third line.
Sullivan loves the energy Josh Archibald brings to the Penguins’ lineup. He says the feisty winger plays on – and sometimes over – the edge.
Expect Casey DeSmith in the net for the Penguins with Tristan Jarry still nursing an undisclosed injury.
Tonight’s Penguins/Avalanche game will be heard on WCCS, 101.1FM and 1160 AM.
