The Heritage Conference boys semifinals are set after Cambria Heights took care of Purchase Line last night, 64-34. Carter Lamb led all scorers with 19 for the Highlanders and Logan Baker added 17.
With the win, Cambria Heights clinches the second spot in the Heritage Conference East, and earns a spot in the semis on The Road to the KCAC, Presented by First Commonwealth Bank. The boys semis on Tuesday night will feature Cambria Heights visiting United and River Valley at Portage. The girls semis on Monday night will have River Valley playing host to Portage and Homer-Center visiting Penns Manor.
Penns Manor topped Northern Cambria, 73-52, as Max Hill scored 18 points, The Comets’ Colton Kerchensky had 16 and Ashton Courvina and Mark Bagley each netted 11. Ty Dumm led the Colts with 17 and Dawson Shutty had 12.
West Shamokin upset River Valley, 40-37. The Wolves had 37 rebounds in the game, 16 of them on the offensive glass. Bradyn Rodgers led the way for West Shamokin with 17 points and 12 boards. Jayden Whitfield scored 11 and Dom Speal 10 for the Panthers.
Homer-Center’s boys avenged an earlier loss to Marion Center with a 55-38 win over the Stingers. Michael Krejocic scored 18 for the Wildcats and Owen Saiani had 13. Noah McCoy had 12 for Marion Center.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
River Valley (17-2) went on a 30-4 first half run and overwhelmed Aquinas Academy , 67-40.
Ava Persichetti led all scorers with 23 points in just three quarters and Hannah Artley had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Tori Foust chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Bald Eagle beat Purchase Line, 47-44. Anna Layden scored 13 and Bailey Weaver 12 for the Red Dragons.
WRESTLING
Another District 6 win for United, which pinned Glendale last night, 60-18. All of the winners in the match were by fall or forfeit. Winners for the Lions by fall were Gideon Bracken, Noah Pisarik, Traystin Tomalson, Caden McCully, and Dylan Stephens.
In the first round of the WPIAL playoffs, Indiana was edged by Highlands, 42-33. Winners for the Indians were Nico Fanella, Carter Putt, Jacob Snyder, Tuscan Blystone, Will Turner, and Michael Dolan. The wrestling team also asked for prayers for Payne McClure, who was taken to the hospital after suffering an apparent serious upper body injury.
