An Indiana High School Student joins 197 other Pennsylvania Students as candidates for the 2023 U.S. Presidental Scholars Program through the U.S. Department of Education.
The program recognizes and honors graduating high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in scholastics, the arts or career and technical education fields. Students are selected based on academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school transcripts, along with community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. The program has been in existence since 1964.
Out of the 198 candidates to represent Pennsylvania, one comes from Indiana County, and that is Gabriel A. Kenning, a senior at Indiana Senior High School.
Last year, three Pennsylvania Students were selected as Presidential Scholars, including the first ever student from a career and technical institute to earn the distinction.
