Police say that the victim was 26-year-old Linda McClure of Indiana. She was a passenger in a tractor-trailer that crashed into the fuel tank of another truck on October 22nd , 1987 in the Eastbound lanes near mile marker 119.4 in Stoneycreek Township. Both McClure and the driver, an un-named California man, died in the crash, but McClure went unidentified for many years.
State police reported that the Turnpike Commission paid for forensic genetic genealogy DNA testing in August of last year, and were able to identify her. Authorities have notified the McClure family of the results. The family had not reported her missing. In a statement, State Police Commander Major Michael Carroll said that “There were many obstacles in the case but none that deterred the outcome,” and he commended the investigators on their work.
