Pitt basketball coach Jeff Capel returns to his alma mater tonight as the Panthers visit Duke, but it’s the first time Capel has coached against the Blue Devils when his opposing coach is not the legendary Mike Krzyszewski. Coach K was Capel’s college coach and he and new Duke coach Jon Scheyer served as assistants under Krzyszewski early in their coaching careers.
Pitt returns to action after having their five-game winning streak broken in a 75-74 loss to Clemson on Saturday. After losing to Vanderbilt on December 7th, Pitt rebounded to beat Sacred Heart. Capel says this will be a different test.
Capel says both and and Duke coach Jon Scheyer share a coaching legacy under Krzeszewski, but they are quite different coaches running different programs.
