With a Christmas holiday driving period behind them, State Police are now focusing on the New Year’s driving period.
State Police say they will once again be out in full force this weekend, and will be on the lookout for aggressive, distracted and impaired drivers. During the 2021-22 New Year’s driving period, State Police investigated 471 motor vehicle crashes. Two people were killed while 97 others were injured. Alcohol was a factor in 8% of the crashes, including one of the fatal crashes.
Troopers say that drunk driving is 100% preventable by using ride-share programs or having a designated driver who’s had nothing to drink. Troopers also encourage people who are hosting in New Year’s Eve party to have non-alcoholic beverages on hand and prevent those who have had too much to drink from getting behind the wheel.
