Indiana County’s unemployment rate held steady over the month of November.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, unemployment between October and November of 2022 remained flat at 4.7%. This mirrors what happened at the state level, as it remains steady at a record low of 4.0%. The national unemployment rate also held steady at 3.7%.
Comparing Indiana County to surrounding counties, Westmoreland County’s rate was 4.0%, while Jefferson County had a 4.2% rate. Armstrong County’s rate was 4.6%. Clearfield County’s rate is 4.9% and Cambria County’s rate is 5.0%.
The highest unemployment rate in the state was in Forrest County, at 5.9%. the lowest was in Chester County at 2.7%.
Total number of non-farm jobs for Indiana County dropped by 200 to 29,100 jobs in the month of November. Jobs in all nine published super sectors were essentially unchanged over the month. Over the last 12 months, the largest declines were seen in the government sector and mining, logging and construction sector. One of the largest increases was in the leisure and hospitality sector with 200 jobs since November of 2021.
