Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up slightly in the month of October.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Statistics, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Indiana County increased by two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.7 percent for the month. This comes after the unemployment rate took a nine-tenths of a point drop in September. The statewide unemployment rate is now at 4.0 percent, which is the lowest rate since the state started keeping records in 1976.
Total non-farm jobs for the Indiana County were essentially unchanged at 29,300 in October. Jobs in all nine published super-sectors were also unchanged. Over the year, the mining, logging and construction sector and the government sectors have each seen a 200 job decline while the trade, transportation and utilities sector and leisure and hospitality sector each went up 200.
