State police released statistics from the Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period Monday afternoon.
During the five-day driving period from November 23-27, two people were killed across the state in as many fatal crashes, marking three fewer fatal crashes than in 2021. In total, 970 crashes were investigated by troopers, 48 of those were alcohol-related. One of the two alcohol-related crashes were fatal. Additionally, 196 people were injured in all the crashes over the holiday.
State police also report 539 DUI arrests, marking an increase of six DUI arrests since last year. They also issued 9,252 speeding tickets, 138 child seat citations, 1,088 seat belt citations, and 15,887 other citations.
Comparing this year to last year, state police saw fewer fatal and total crashes, along with fewer injuries.
In Troop A, which covers Most of Indiana County, all of Cambria and Somerset counties and parts of Westmoreland County, 43 crashes were investigated over the five-day period. Two of were alcohol-related. Police report no fatalities and 10 people injured. Police also made 41 DUI investigations, issued 553 speeding tickets, 79 people seatbelt citations and two child safety seat citations.
Troop A also reported the 63 self-initiated criminal arrests, which is the most across all troops.
