With the remnants of Tropical Rainstorm Nicole expected to hit our area today, there have been cancellations of some of the Veterans Day celebrations.
Blairsville borough officials announced yesterday that the borough’s annual Veterans Day parade was cancelled due to the impeding heavy rainfall, and there are no plans to make the parade up.
Yesterday, it was reported that the planned dedication of the “Garden of Honor” in Oakland Cemetery was postponed. The event will be held in the early spring, but the large American Flag is up and people are allowed to visit the site.
Indiana’s Veterans Day Parade is still on for now, and if you can’t make it down to watch it, you’ll be able to watch the parade on our Renda Digital TV YouTube channel on the homepage of WCCSradio.com.
Also scheduled for today is the rededication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on IUP’s Campus. The memorial was recently moved to it’s new home at IUP’s Pierce Hall, which is the home to the Department of Military Science and IUP’s ROTC. The ceremony will be held at noon, and in an announcement from the university, the ceremony will be moved inside of Pierce Hall. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the original dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at IUP.
