Flu season continues to have an impact on the health of Pennsylvanians.
The PA Department of Health has announced in their latest round of statistics, which ended October 29th, that while seasonal flu activity in the state remains low, it is still higher than last year at this time. The department says that across the state, there have been 5,585 lab-confirmed cases of influenza this year. 4,824 of those cases have been classified as Type A flu, while 755 have type B flu, and six cases have been classified as Type U.
In Indiana County, eighteen cases of influenza have been reported, but 10 of the cases are type B flu. Eight others are type A flu.
Confirmed cases have been reported in 64 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. Two confirmed influenza-related deaths have been reported. And the percentage of emergency department visits for influenza-like illnesses has been low.
These statistics represent just the lab-confirmed cases of influenza in the state, and could represent just a fraction of actual flu cases. Many do not go to the doctor when they get the flu, and many do not go to the doctor to get tested.
