On Wednesday afternoon, the White Township Supervisors voted to put deer hunting on hold for the rest of the hunting season.
Before the vote was held, supervisor Gail McCauley apologized to township recreation director Ryan Shaffer for taking the brunt of the response from the public and the supervisors at the last meeting over the issue of the hunting signs going up saying that hunting in Whites Woods was to begin on October 1st. After that meeting, the hunting was postponed. Some supported the idea of having the hunting take place after the holiday season, but Eugene Gemmell said that since then, things have continued to get confusing, so he wanted to put the hunting session on hold until things are clear for everyone.
The vote was 4-1 with supervisors chairman George Lenz voting against the ruling, saying that he supported the idea of hunting in White’s Woods, but with some provisions in place.
In other business, the board of supervisors unanimously approved purchasing and installing a ceremonial street sign on Kolter Drive to pay tribute to the late Gilbert Zilner for his work in making Diamond Drug and Diamond Medical Supply one of the area’s biggest employers.
