The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources recently issued its second fall foliage report for 2022, and most counties are classified as “starting to change” or “approaching best color” categories.
Like last report, areas that have experienced the most color change is McKean, Potter, Susquehanna, and Wayne Counties located in the north and northeast part of the state. Leaves in these areas are classified as peaking or at “best color”.
Indiana County is still in the “starting to change”, as are most counties in the southern part of the state. The only exceptions are neighboring Westmoreland County, along with Fayette and Somerset counties, which are classified as “approaching best color”.
The report from the DCNR said vibrant colorations can be found from the Alleghenies to the Pocono Plateau. It adds that seasonable temperatures and rather cool nights this week will accelerate leaf change throughout the state.
