As demand for gasoline spikes, the price at the pump is continuing to go up both across the nation and across the state.
The national gas price average this morning, according to Triple-A is $3.90 a gallon, up a penny from yesterday, ten cents from last week and 15 cents from last month. Last year, gas prices were hovering at the $3.20 mark. Pennsylvania’s average this morning is slightly lower than the national average, at $3.86. That’s two cents higher than yesterday and nine cents higher than last week. It’s still ten cents lower than last month. Last year, the average was $3.39.
The reason for the increase in the national gas price average is due to an increase in demand. Experts say the demand spiked from 8.63 million barrels a day to 9.47 million barrels. Total domestic gas stocks did go down significantly to 207.5 million barrels, a drop of 4.7 million barrels over the last week. Crude oil prices have also been going up over the last few days, with the price at the end of trading yesterday at $93.20 a barrel.
Indiana County’s average this morning has also taken a significant jump over the last few days, with the average now $3.97 a gallon today. The lowest average remains in Jefferson County with a price of $3.84 a gallon. That’s followed by Clearfield at $3.87, then Cambria at $3.92. Westmoreland County ties with Indiana at $3.97. Armstrong County remains the region at $3.99.
Gas prices across Indiana, Homer City, Clymer and Blairsville this morning are $3.99 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com
