The Pirates have never had much luck against Cardinals’ pitcher Adam Wainwright, but they finally got to him yesterday in Wainwright’s last regular-season start ever for St. Louis.

Manager Derek Shelton says the Pirates’ hitters finally figured out Wainwright.
Shelton says Roansy Contreras, who pitched only three innings and gave up four runs, but only two earned, fought hard in his final start.
The Cardinals made the final start of its all-time battery of Wainwright and catcher Yadier Molina special with a pregame ceremony. Shelton says the Pirates didn’t get caught up in the fanfare.
The Pirates activated catcher Tyler Heinneman from the seven-day concussion injured list and placed first baseman Zack Collins on the ten day injury list with a non-covid illness.
The Pirates return home for a season-ending three-game series begins against the Cardinals, with the Bucs sending Mitch Keller to the mound for his final start. He is 5-12 with a 3.92 ERA. The Cardinals have not announced their starter.
