Law enforcement officials had more activity than normal on Saturday night of Homecoming Weekend.
IUP police reported 12 calls for routine service, along with three arrests. Two of the students were arrested for underage drinking. Indiana Borough Police had 43 calls for service, and made four arrests. Two of the arrests were of IUP students. One of the students, a man, was arrested for simple assault, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. The other student, a female, was charged with underage drinking, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. The other two arrests, for non-IUP students, included an arrest on charges of Simple Assault hand harassment, while the other non-IUP student was arrested as a fugitive from justice.
State police say that one of the arrests made included a 17-year-old boy from Glassport, who was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped Sunday morning at 1:42 AM on Garman Avenue in Indiana Borough. State troopers saw the three teens in the vehicle had cocaine and requested the Glassport boy to step out of the car. After he did, he started to run, with police apprehending him after a short foot pursuit. He was found with a large quantity of cocaine, heroin, a digital scale, a small amount of marijuana and ammo for a .38 caliber gun. A 15-year-old passenger in the back seat was in possession of a small amount of marijuana and a large amount of cash. A gun was also found on the car’s floorboards. A search of the vehicle also turned up a stolen AR-15 rifle and 9 mm pistol, along with additional quantities of heroin, cocaine and crystal meth. A loaded .38 caliber pistol was also found near the site of the foot pursuit. The two teens and another 17-year-old girl from Turtle Creek were processed and released into the care of their guardians.
