If you are about to renew your driver’s license or state photo ID, it may look a little different as PennDOT is rolling out a new design.
PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian said that the update to the design of the license is an important part of the department’s work to enhance and protect the integrity of the process of issuing licenses and ID cards. Both standard and REAL ID-enhanced licenses will use the new design and security features, which include:
• Guilloche security design, which embeds a variety of customized security patterns into the card.
• Optically Variable Ghost Portrait and Variable Data with UV
• A Dynamic Look-through element that has a gold metallic tint visible under direct light.
The new ID’s started to roll out at the Driver’s License Center in Enola in Cumberland County, but is expected to roll out across the state by mid-November.
