Indiana Borough Police announced this afternoon that they arrested and charged the man responsible for an armed robbery along South 7th Street Thursday morning.
In a news release, Indiana Borough Police announced that 20-year-old Jamie White Jr. of Indiana was arrested and charged for Robbery, Theft, Simple Assault and Possessing an Instrument a Crime after tips from the community found him to be responsible for the armed robbery that happened Thursday morning near South 7th and Gompers Avenue.
Officers were dispatched to that area around 1 a.m. after White approached a woman and demanded cash from her. White was found to be in possession of a knife, and he made off with an undisclosed amount of money. The woman was not hurt in the incident.
White was arrested and arraigned before Magisterial Judge Guy Haberl. He is now lodged in Indiana County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 14th.
Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl thanked community members for their efforts, saying that community support and law enforcement partners allowed for “safe closure so quickly.”
Indiana Borough Police was assisted by members of the Pennsylvania State Police and the Indiana County District Attorney’s office.
