Indiana County’s first responders had a busy day on Sunday with several different types of calls reported.
The earliest call was at 12:30 AM as a vehicle fire was reported on Church Road in Canoe Township. Marion Center and Rossiter fire departments and State Police from the Punxsy barracks were dispatched. Few details are available on the fire.
A structure fire that was reported on Sunday in Burrell Township near the Walmart turned out to be nothing more than a controlled burn. Coral-Graceton, Blairsville and Black Lick fire departments were dispatched at 2:55 PM for a location on Old William Penn Highway in Burrell Township, but when fire crews got there, they found the controlled burn. Black Lick fire officials want to remind everyone that legal burn days are only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from sun up to sundown.
Two automatic fire alarm activiations were reported yesterday. The first was on Grant Street in Indiana Borough, with Indiana Fire Company 3 dispatched to the scene at 1:52 PM, while Black Lick and Blairsville fire fighters were called out to the Conewago complex along Catalpa Street for a fire alarm activation at 6:31 PM.
Finally, Indiana Fire Company 4 was dispatched to a call for utility lines down on Rustic Lodge Road in White Township at 6:35 PM.
