As we enter Labor Day Weekend, gas price averages continue to go down across the United States and Pennsylvania.
Triple A reports that the national average is now $3.79 a gallon. It’s down another penny over 24 hours, six cents over the last week and 37 cents down from last month. Last year at this time, the average is $3.18. Pennsylvania’s average is $4.01, another two cent drop from yesterday, a 14-cent drop from last week and 44 cents down from last month. Last year, Pennsylvania’s average was $3.29.
The main reason for the decline in gas prices has been the decrease in the cost of crude oil, which earlier this week went below the $90 a barrel mark. As of this morning, the price declined further to $87.25 a gallon.
While many gas stations in Indiana County have been reporting prices at $3.99 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas, there are still some above that mark, making the average as of this morning at $4.02. Among the surrounding counties, Jefferson County has the lowest average, being the first in the region to go below the $4 mark to $3.97. Westmoreland County has also dipped below the $4 mark to $3.98. Clearfield tied with Indiana at $4.02, Cambria has a $4.04 average and Armstrong is still the highest at $4.11.
