Five different projects related to robotics in the Southwest Pennsylvania Region will share in $62.7 million in federal grants.
The Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative has announced the receipt of the grant money from the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge funds. The region is one of 21 applicants receiving grant money funding. The five projects are designed to provide long-term opportunities for the individuals, businesses and communities in the region to become involved in the growing robotics and autonomy industry.
The Southwestern PA Commission, which Indiana County is a part of, will receive $24.8 million for a project called Expanded Pathways to New Economy Careers. The money will be used to establish a regional upskilling system serving both robotics technology developers and technology adopters in the long run. The project is expected to open a range of training options outside of the traditional four-year and advanced degrees, and make sure that the programs evolve as needs change.
Other groups receiving grant funding include Catalyst Connection, The Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute, Innovation Works and InnovatePGH.
