As we head into the Labor Day holiday driving period, gas prices on average continue to go down.
The national average cost of a gallon of gas is now $3.84 according to Triple A. It represents another decrease of a penny over the last 24 hours, a five cent drop from last week and 39 cents over the last month. Last year at this time, the national average was $3.15 a gallon. While stable crude oil prices and decreasing demand have been the reason prices have descended from record-breaking high levels earlier this summer, experts are still wary of hurricanes and other severe weather events in the Gulf of Mexico that may impact large coastal refineries.
Pennsylvania’s average this morning is at $4.12 a gallon, which is a penny less than yesterday, eight cents less than last week, and 35 cents lower than last month at this time. Indiana County’s average is five cents higher than the statewide average, at $4.17. The lowest average in our area is in Jefferson County at $4.08. Next highest was $4.11 out of Westmoreland County. Then Clearfield at $4.12, then Indiana, then Cambria County at $4.18, and the highest in the region is $4.22 in Armstrong County.
