Wednesday night, the Penns Manor School Board was updated on the progress on raising funds for the football field.
Superintendent Daren Johnston announced that the field was now fully funded thanks to board President Robert Packer’s fundraising efforts. Packer said that he wanted to make sure that the switchover in 2017 from a natural grass field to artificial turf did not use any taxpayer dollars.
The football field project was also funded by two national grants, one a $250,000 grant from the NFL and the other a $50,000 ESPN grant.
In other business, the board approved an agreement with Tom Talmadge Painting for the cleaning and chemical treatment of exterior split face bauer block at the district’s office and at the elementary building at a cost of $8,672.94. The board also hired several people to start the school year, including guest teachers, long term substitutes and volunteers for marching band and majorettes.
