The Wolf Administration has announced that grants will be made available to school districts across the state to initiate student mental health programs and physical security enhancements.
The $190 million that will be made available to schools includes $95 million each for School Mental Health Grants and Physical School Safety and Security Grants. The mental health grants can be used for mental health early intervention, self-care and suicide awareness, restorative justice, bullying and bullying prevention among other areas. The money from the School Safety and Security grants will be used to help defray the cost of physical security, including K-9 units, metal detectors, electronic locks and deadbolts, the cost of training and compensation for school resource officers, and others.
