The attention surrounding WNBA star Britney Griner’s detention in Russia is shedding new light on other Americans being held there, including a man from Western PA.
For almost a year, 61 year-old Marc Fogel of Oakmont, Allegheny County, has been in a Russian prison on drug smuggling charges after taking 17 grams of medical marijuana into the country. Fogel had been a teacher at the Anglo American School in Moscow. With the US government proposing a deal regarding the release of fellow detainee Britney Griner, Fogel’s family is expressing hope that he could be included in any such agreement.
The family has launched a change-dot-org petition, hoping to draw the attention of the White House and the State Department.
