Stormy weather caused a number of power outages throughout Indiana County last night, and for some, the electricity will remain out for much of the day today. Penelec’s outage map shows the lights not coming back on until as late as three o’clock in some parts of central Indiana County, and REA customers also had ongoing outages overnight.
Some of the affected areas still without electricity in the overnight hours included Armstrong, Center, Cherryhill, East Mahoning, and White townships; the Saltsburg area; Marion Center; and the corridor between Plumville and Home.
The emergency dispatches last night started shortly after six o’clock. Between then and midnight, there were sixteen calls for firefighters in East Mahoning, White, East Wheatfield, Center, Pine, South Mahoning, Cherryhill, Buffington, and Brush Valley townships. Firefighters from Marion Center, Indiana, Armagh, Cherryhill, Pine Township, Plumville, Homer City, Brush Valley, Vintondale, and Marion Center were called into action, mostly for trees or wires down.
