On Tuesday night, the River Valley School Board approved the 2022-2023 budget that does not contain a tax increase.
The budget comes to $36,775,110 with taxes staying at 16.01 mils for Indiana County residents and 118.75 mils for Westmoreland County residents. The vote went 5-4 with Beverly Carnese, Nathan Baird, Melanie Pantalone and Jessica Clawson each voting against the budget. During the meeting, Board President Rick Harper questioned why Baird voted against the budget despite not attending any of the budget meetings. Baird said he had his reasons.
Board president Rick Harper after the meeting said that the budget is in alignment with how River Valley will move forward.
In other business, the board also accepted with regret the resignation of Blairsville Elementary Principal Kara Gardner. The board also authorized the administration to post and/or advertise the position if necessary.
