On Thursday night, the Homer-Center School Board approved the budget for next year.
The budget comes to $18,911,934 with taxes holding steady at 16.7567 mils. As part of the budget approval, the board approved the Homestead/Farmstead exclusion resolution, and because of some extra money coming into that program, those who take part will see a higher credit, according to district business manager Gregg Kalemba. He said that it was because the district received $100,000 more for the plan, which is funded by state revenues from gambling.
The board vote went 7-1 with James McLoughlin the lone vote not in favor, but he said later in the meeting that it was because he just came back to the school board to fill the unexpired term of Joe Izzei, Jr., so he was not as involved with the budget as other members. But he said that he was confident in the work of the board and the administration that the budget was gone through thoroughly.
In other business, the board granted tenure to elementary teachers Casey Carnahan and Levi McCracken after three years of satisfactory service to the district.
