U.S. SUPREME COURT RULING PAUSES RECOUNT OF UNDATED BALLOTS IN SENATE RACE

A ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court could affect the recount going on in the Republican U.S. Senate Race between Dr. Mehmet Oz and David McCormick.

Reports say that the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the counting of some mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania.  The order from Justice Samuel Alito pauses the ruling of the 3^rd U.S. Circuit court of Appeals in Philadelphia that stated that mail in ballots that did not have a hand-written date next to the voter’s signature on the outside envelope were to be counted.  The Circuit Court ruling said that requirement was “immaterial” and no reason to throw out the ballots.  The state had advised counties to include those ballots in their statewide recount, and McCormick had gone to court to force other counties to follow through.

Currently, Oz leads McCormick by 922 votes out of more than 1.3 million votes cast in the primary, but the count is continuing in several counties.  The recount was triggered as there was less than half a percentage point between the two candidates.
