As warmer weather makes its way to Indiana County and across the state, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is teaming up with the National Safe Boating Council and other boating safety advocates to celebrate National Safe Boating Week.
The weeklong initiative, which starts today and runs until Friday, aims to remind boaters of basic safety guidelines when out on the water by hosting safe boating expos on some popular waterways, while presenting virtual expos on its website and social media platforms.
To kick-off National Safe Boating Week, PFBC Buraue of Boating Director Laurel Anders offers a few simple reminders to boaters:
- Always wear a life jacket.
- Never boat while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
- Have a “float plan”, or let someone know where and when you’ll be boating.
- Check weather forecasts for storms and/or high water conditions.
- Take a basic boating safety course.
- Have proper registrations and launch permits.
Virtual expo content includes how-to videos, boating safety testimonials, podcasts and public service announcements. All of which can be found on the PFBC’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
Boaters wanted to know more about virtual expo content are encouraged to log on to the PFBC’s website at Fishandboat.com.
